This is an updated skin care routine for oily and acne prone skin like mine. Find out which skin care products I use that has cleared my acne for good!

To give you a brief summary of my skin type is, I have oily skin on my t-zone area and dry skin patches on other parts of my face.

I am very fortunate and grateful that I didn’t experience major acne problems when I was younger. Of course, I’d still get the odd acne. But it is due to hormonal period or late night sleeping. Other times I get it when I over indulge myself eating chocolates and peanuts. But other than that, my skin was a pretty clear slate.

But that was then when I was so much younger than today.

My major breakout came about when I hit the age of 30. I say major because they were big, sore and swollen. They came out one after the other and way out of control. I also noticed my skin became oilier than normal, even during winter time.

I found out these skin care products before and it has definitely cleared my acne. Since then, I am more careful in what I use on my skin. But even so, I am still on the look out on enhancing my skin care routine to keep my skin free of acne for good.

Here are my updated skin care routine and products I use that has proven to keep my skin clear of acne and excess oil.

7 Steps Skin Care Routine For Oily and Acne Prone Skin

1. Makeup Remover

I don’t usually use a micellar water as I do not put on a heavy makeup every day. But when I do, I trust Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water. I use the one with the pink lid. I stopped using balms, oils or creams as they all clogged my pores.

2. Exfoliation

This skin care step is a must for me. If you read my blog, you know I love my self a good body and face scrub. My scrub hero at the moment is the Clean and Clear Morning Energy Skin Brightening Daily Facial Scrub. It is oil-free and I use it as my every day and night facial wash. The scrub beads are a little coarser but it is non-iritating nor leave my skin red, dry and tight. The citrus fragrance of lemon and papaya combination smells delicious and refreshing.

3. Toning Lotion

I have zero faith in using a toning lotion because my last experienced with a brand was not good. But I thought I’d give it another attempt. Many beauty experts have suggested to use a toner no matter what your skin type is.

Nuxe Gentle Toning Lotion has regained my faith. It deep cleansed my pores like a second cleanser. It also tightens the skin without feeling tight and dry. This toning lotion makes my skin even smoother and oil-free feel. I noticed a big change on my skin ever since I used this one until its last drop.

4. Blackhead Clearing

They said, when you have oily skin, you are more prone to getting blackheads and acne. Applying Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Cleanser day and night has become my every day routine too. Although, it does not take away blackheads and excess oil over night. It still deep cleanses the pores, so blackheads, acne and oils are getting less and less of an issue.

5. Facial Clay Masks

I make sure to apply a face clay masks twice a week. Sometimes three times as my special treat to my skin. I prefer a clay mask that focus on clearing up acne. The masks I am usig now deep cleansing the pores, balances oil produce on my skin and has a brightening effect. I switch between using L’oreal Pure Clay Glow Mask, Lush Mask of Magnaminty and Tea Tree Witch Hazel with Active Charcoal Mask. They work wonders of my skin and super affordable too!

6. Face Serum

I used to apply serum every now and then or only when I like doing it. But now, I do it every day and night. Some serums make me breakout and leave my skin either super tight, dehyrated and super greasy feel. I never get that when I started using The Body Shop Drops of Youth and Skin Chemists 24 Hour Aqua Repair Facial Serum. They are like vitamins to my skin and I can see the beautiful effect of these two serums the more I use them every day.

I swear by Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Moisturiser that it work on my problematic acne skin before. Now I’ve been using The Ordinary for the longest time and next is the Caudalie Vine 3-in-1 Moisturiser. They are gentle to my skin, oil-free and uses natural products that does not harm the skin.

I am definitely much happier now that my skin looks and feels a lot better. Touch wood it stays like this or even better!
